The Scene:
With a smoke-free patio, open mike every Wednesday and music on the weekends, the Java's owners aim to keep the crowd later (and may lengthen their hours if their plan proves successful. The black-garbed artistic crowd come for live entertainment on the weekends, nodding to folk and world beat music while sipping lattes, eying biscotti, and discussing the latest Greenaway film playing in San Francisco. Well-heeled yuppies awaiting the latest Tower Theater jazz concert and precociously caffeinated high school students even out the cafe's patronage.

Must Have Drinks:
Double espresso, iced mocha.
